Pets

I have heard a lot of talk around Santa Clara of students who want to get a pet for the upcoming year. The Humane Society in San Jose has many pets to choose from. By adopting a pet from the Humane Society you can help save a life while gaining a great friend. The Humane Society is trying to eliminate the unnecessary euthanasia of over 50,000 pets in the Bay area. Usually pets adopted from the Humane Society are good tempered and just looking for a permanent home and someone to love. ARRUPE

This week I started my arrupe assignment for a class I am currently taking.  I am assigned to go to Julian Street Inn in San Jose for a program called Innvision.  This is a shelter for people who are homeless, just got out of jail, or a place to go to be rehabbed.  However, what makes this shelter unique is that it only houses homeless people with mental problems.  My visit was extremely interesting.  I talked to three gentlemen who had amazing stories about how they had gotten in their current position.  I learned a lot from these men and their rough lives.

MCC Week

This week is called MCC week.  Its put on by the Multicultural Club here at Santa Clara University, and each day has a different theme.  This Friday they are holding a date auction, where people will be auctioned off to perform services that may include chores, cooking, soccer lessons, etc.  Not only does this promote diversity on campus, but the proceeds benefit multicultural programming and Multiple Sclerosis.

MLK Night

On Monday I had the privilege of attending Igwebuike's annual MLK Night.  The production was a mixture of drama, poetry, song and dance that celebrated the progress and examined the reality since Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s historic "I Have a Dream Speech."  The events of the night were especially inspiring considering it fell on the eve of the inauguration of President Barack Obama.
